Notes for Fri. 16-7-2010.
Written by Sean Kelly

Ricky Kelly: The rain did its best to try and spoil the fun last weekend but over 29 teams still took part with a small bit of history being made by the winning team of Daniel Shine, Roger O’Sullivan and Tara Murphy with their score of 57. Tara is the first ever lady to be on the winning team in the competition and she had a hole-in-one in their round last Saturday. Not bad for your first competition! The Overall Gross prize was won by Paudie and Timmy Looney as well as Jonathon Sparling with a score of 80. Second were last year’s winning team of Richard Kelly, Paul Cronin and Kieran Buckley while the mixed prize went to Denis Duggan, Andy Brennan and Lindsey Cronin. The non-members prize went to the 2002 winning team of Bobby Kelly, Danny and Kieran Brosnan. Despite the rain on Monday evening we did our best to improvise and we were brilliant entertained by Margaret B. Looney and her group of fellow traditional musicians. Donal Shine and Jackie O’Mahony closed out the night and over €2,500 was raised for Cystic Fibrosis as a result of the event. A big thank you to everyone who took part last weekend, the Tatler Jack Bar our sponsors and everyone who helped out in anyway with the competition and the barbeque. Hope to see you all again next year when the tournament is 21 years old!

Club Fourball Matchplay: The tournament finally came to its conclusion over the weekend as Ger Casey and Aidan O’Keeffe triumphed, firstly by overcoming the team of John Murphy and Andy Brennan in the semi-final and then Daniel Shine and Paudie Looney in the final. Ger and Aidan had a seven hole lead at one stage but Paudie and Daniel brought the match back to two before Ger and Aidan eventually triumphed on the 34th hole.

Club Singles Matchplay: The closing date for entries for both the Ladies and Gents competitions is this weekend with the first round games due to commence on Monday. Please ensure that your name is on the entry sheets on the club noticeboard and a reminder that the Ladies competition will only be run in the event of eight or more entering. Contact our competition secretaries Gerry O’Sullivan and Ger O’Connor for further information.

Summer Fourballs: Roger O’Sullivan and John Murphy were last Wednesday night’s winners. Same again this and every Wednesday at 7.30pm

Castleisland Scratch Cup: Takes place this Sunday from 8.30am-2.30pm with Kerry players requested to play before noon. We encourage everyone to do their best to support the competition and a reminder to all Ladies interested in going forward for the Kerry team for the Munster Inter-County that this is the event from which the team will be picked from and they are asked to be present for 12.30pm.

Anniversary Mass: Next Tuesday evening we will be having a mass in memory of deceased members of the club in the clubhouse at 8pm. All connected with the club are welcome to attend.

Deepest Sympathies: are extended to the Blackwell family on the sudden loss of Michael Senior last weekend. Michael was a driving force behind a lot of the activity in the club in the early years particularly in terms of the club’s irrigation system and helping out with the juvenile activities in the club. We send our condolences onto his family- wife Kathleen, sons Michael Junior, Ger and John as well as daughter Abina.
