Club notes for Friday the 18th may.

PJ Bell: The club’s team of Damien Fleming, Sean Kelly, Mary Murphy and Fiona O’Donnell had a commendable outing in Inniscarra, Co Cork on Sunday. They finished with a total of 139 points, 26 behind the winning team but a good showing considering this was their first time playing in this format.
Outside Competitions: We had some good success for our club members in competitions outside the county in the last two weeks. Paudie Looney was the winner of the Junior Scratch Cup in Collins, Cork on the Bank Holiday Monday and he also teamed up with Hugh O’Sullivan and John Clifton to win a prize in the club’s Three Ball Scramble as well. Daragh O’Keeffe meanwhile was second in the Intermediate section at the Hillview Scratch Cup in Clonmel last Sunday. Well done to all concerned.
National Matchplay: While Damien was already secure in his place in the competition as the defending champion he will have some company from the club in Claycastle as Ger O’Connor qualified for the tournament for the first time ever. Well done to Ger on this magnificent achievement.
Sunday Singles: 10 hearty souls played last Sunday’s competition with the club’s erstwhile secretary and PRO Jason O’Connor winning the 18 hole competition with a 47 Nett on the Back Nine from Michael Cronin.
Scramble: We will have an 18 hole Scramble this Sunday morning at 10am. Entry €3, open to adult & juvenile members.
Munster Strokeplay: Entries for this competition close Sunday evening so as to meet the PPUI’s closing date. All entrants must be registered and have their appropriate fee paid before their entry is sent off. Please note the closing date for the National Strokeplay is one week later.
Club Fourball Matchplay: Entries are being taken for this competition; entry is €8 per player and it is hoped to commence this competition in due course.
Munster Matchplay: Best wishes to the club’s five competitors in this weekend’s competition in Tipperary Hills. They are Damien Fleming and John McGrath (Senior), Johnny O’Brien (Intermediate) and Aidan O’Keeffe and Jason O’Connor (Junior). Hopefully they will be able to continue the club’s great run of success in Munster competitions in recent years.
Congratulations: To Kieran Murphy and Creagh Courtney on receiving merit awards from St Brendan’s College in recognition of their outstanding achievements in Pitch & Putt last year.
